Climate Change Is Affecting The Livelihoods And Way Of Life

Climate change is affecting the livelihoods and way of life for most of the households in rural areas, as informed by the recently released weather outlook/2022.

In an effort to increase on community preparedness to mitigate and adapt, Anglican Development Services Eastern (ADSE) conducted awareness community meeting and linkage forum on early warning systems and dissemination of weather forecast advisories in Kiangini CBO, Kathonzweni ward, Makueni county during the month of September 2022. This was actualized with the support from Anglicans In Development (previously Anglican Board of Mission-Australia) in collaboration with the Kenya Meteorological Development (KMD) and respective ministry departments from Makueni County. The farmers, who are mostly small holder farming groups, were sensitized on the overall October-December rainfall 2022 outlook within the County. The County Meteorological Officer took the farmers through the forecast; that the rains will be poorly distributed in space and time. The onset of the rains is expected in the 1st to 2nd week of November 2022 and subside in the 3rd to 4th week of December 2022. Ministry of Agriculture department encouraged the farmers to grow drought resistance crops, upscale the adoption of climate smart production technologies and harvest the water adequately.
