The Makueni Agroforestry Carbon Project (MACP) aims to contribute to food security, climate resilience and income generation through the production and sale of Croton seeds. The Project will promote the adoption and continuation of Sustainable Agricultural Land Management (SALM) practices that will generate high-quality carbon credits targeting to achieve 40,000 ha of smallholder farms in Makueni county and will follow a 5-year roll-out plan starting in 2023 (100 ha), 2024 (3900 ha), 2025 (8,000 ha), 2026 (12,000 ha) and 2027 (16,000 ha). The target trees being Croton megalocarpus, other native tree species such as Melia Volkensii, Dalbergia, as well as Moringa, Neem and fruit species.
